Felt Bag

Filztasche1

Are you part of the large “bag loving” community? Then you’re right here. We’ve made a lovely felt handbag for less than 5 £/ 7$ in less than half a day. You only have to buy felt 0.16 inches thick and bead yarn of the color you like. The free pattern for download is here and to show you how easy it really is you can see some further bags made by children 6-8 years old. Two of the bags are even made with remainders of artificial leather. They won’t last for ever but there will be one or more occasions this summer to wear them. For the garnishment you may realize your own ideas.
The side parts have to be cut out twice and the bottom one. Carefully draw the outlines with a pencil (for dark felt chose a bright coloring pencil) or even better with a special fabric marker. Start sewing the upper borders of both side parts with a kind of satin stitch and the gripholes with a buttonhole stitch. The last one can also be taken for all edges. Then sew both side parts together. There I left the beginning of my thread hanging down. Lateron I fixed two further threads and breaded them. The bottom is inserted with buttonhole stitch too. Therefor fold bottom, mark end points of folding line and fix to the side seams. All threads are sewn up at the inner side of the bag by leading them through the last stitches, knotting them and finally cutting them.
For one of the grip holes I took the end and beginning of my thread, made a knot and put some pearls on them. The children sewed fringes, sequin skulls and peace-symbols and personal felt letters. Every bag unique and a real eyecatcher.

Felt Shoes

Schuh5

There’s hardly anything you can’t do with felt. On the site the “Purl Bee” of Purl Soho I found a wonderful and very detailed instruction for these lovely baby felt shoes. She even allows downloading of her pattern for private use. That’s why today I don’t have to write too much myself. Of course I made a pair of them to find out whether it’s really that easy. All I’d like to say is that I fixed the leastic strap at the marked position before sewing the shoes.
If there’s any further question don’t hesitate to contact me or just have a look at my gallery.

Eclairs

I can’t tell you why exactly this kind of pastry’s called “love bones” in Germany. Maybe it’s because of their sweet filling. In any case they’re a perfect surprise for your beloved on Valentine’s Day, specially when they are filled with crimson raspberries. As already mentioned with the recipe for profiteroles you may use convenience pastry if you’re not that skilled in baking.
For the eclairs follow the instructions on the sachet and for the filling read my recipe card. You’ll find some ideas for serving in the gallery. You may serve them for teatime but as a dessert for a Valentine’s dinner as well.

Take two, get four

It really takes you only two ingredients to produce four lovely desserts. These are eggs and sugar or honey. Some fruit put into the ramekins make it even more tasty but you don’t have to take  them necessarily.
If you prepare it for guests you should in any case make one or two in addition. There’s surely someone liking it that much that he wants to eat a second soufflé.
Concerning the sensibility of soufflé you need to know that it took me two rounds to remove them from the oven without making them cave. That means for you  if you don’t succeed take two eggs and sugar and try again. It’s worth it.

Ingredients
  1. 2 eggs
  2. 2.8oz sugar (honey works as well)
  3. 1 tbsp fruit (fresh or deep-frozen)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven at 345°F
  2. Prepare four ramekins
  3. If you want to prepare them with fruit give 1 tbsp of it into each ramekin.
  4. Then the eggs need to be seperated. Beat egg whites until hard peaks form. Then whisk egg yolks with sugar or honey until creamy and nearly white. Now fold the yolk creme into the beaten egg whites. Pour into your ramekins and place them in the oven. Remove carefully with grid from oven after baking about 20 minutes. When they're higher than the edge of your ramekin and of a light brown color they're right.
  5. With the help of a potholder place them on a dessert plate and serve directly.
Notes
  1. I chose raspberries for my dessert. You may take strawberries, apricots, blueberries or apples as well. That depends on your fondness and on what you have at home.
  2. Your dessert will look even nice if you cover it with a little bit of icing sugar.

Atmospheric Lamps

Glaslampe6

Always new, very nice and matching with your decoration! I’ll show today how easy it is to make these little candle lamps. For these lamps I didn’t even need an hour, selection of paper included. I found the idea while looking for something else. All you need ist a nice jar, a tea light, double faced Scotch tape or a glue pen and translucent paper. According to the event or place you may take transparent paper, scrapbooking paper and gift wrapping paper. For a standard wine glass your paper should mesure at least 8.3 x 11.4 inches. For the little lamp on a liqueur glass I took a remainder of 6.3 x 7.8 inches. Depending on height and circumference of the glass I changed the size of my pattern to be downloaded here.
Chose a paper, draw outlines of pattern on its backside and cut out carefully. On one side you should either fix the Scotch tape or a line with your glue pen. Take of the protective paper and fix the other side of your lamp on top. Give a tea light into your glass and put your lamp shade on it.
If you like it you may cut the bottom of your shade with contour scissors, punch out a border or glue some ribbons or paper motives on it. This should be done best before closing the shade.
These candle lamps are made for table settings as well as for room decoration. In the wink of an eye a wonderful table setting or a romantic light is created.
