Hotpot with grounded meat

HackeintopfMoving lockers, masking doors and windows, mixing colours – hungry! Fried potatoes were requested but time too short. Fortunately 0.5lb grounded meat and a pot of steam vegetables (peas, carrots and Indian corn) were available. Cook the vegetables in your microwave and sear the meat in a seperate frying pan. Cut some potatoes, 4 shallots, a red pepper and a smoked sausage left over yesterday. Mix with meat one after the other starting with shallots followed by potatoes, pepper and sausage. Then add 0.5 lq.qt beef stock and let cook for about 20 minutes until potatoes are done. Take off some pieces of potato, scrunch them with a fork and return them into the hotpot for thickening. Now flavour with salt, pepper and a dash of chilli powder. For serving spread some Italian parsley on top.
The craftsmen got some toasted bread with it and afterwards hands make light work.
You may also cook this hotpot with leek, zucchini or kidney beans according to the remains of your fridge or storage cellar.

Damson Cake

PflaumenruehrenglWe celebrate reunification tomorrow but the rest of theweek-end is booked for redecoration of our living-room. There won’t be much time left for cooking and baking. A little break on our sunny terrace however should be possible. This sponge cake with damson is made within the time of drinking a cup of coffee and while it’s cooking you may continue working. Give butter, sugar and vanilla sugar in a large bowl and stir carefully. Then add each egg seperately and pound until volume has increased considerably. Scatter sieved flour and cinnamon. (Please take tea spoon only and not table spoon as mentioned above).
Clean damsons, pit and if necessary cut in halves. Give batter into the parchment covered springform pan and arrange damsons on top beginning at the edge. The cake should stay in the oven at 420°F for about 30-35 minutes. After baking take off the cake with its parchment paper and pull on a rack. If the damsons are a bit too acid you may sweaten them with sugar mixed with cinnamon.
This simple cake is absolutely delicious and you may keep it several days in an air-tight box in the fridge.

Angallis arvensis

366px-Illustration_Anagallis_caerulea0This plant is lightly toxic and causes diarrhea if savoured by horses, dogs and probably donkeys too. The tinkering donkey however is afflicted by some virus that makes writing, handicraft and anything else impossible. The device now is drinking a lot, following the doctor’s diet and keeping calm. Hope you dont’t mind that this means waiting for the next posts.

Tortellini-casserole

AuflaufengljA real tasty casserole quite easy and quick to cook. Boil tortellini according instructions on package and fill in a casserole dish. Cut pork sausage, pepper and sahllotts in small pieces. Roast sausage and shallotts in cooking oil and add the pepper. Pour cream and tomatos into the pan and stir slightly. Flavor with black pepper, salt and a bit of chilli powder and pour sauce into the casserole. Scatter with grounded cheese and cook in oven at 390°F for about 20 minutes.
Serve with lettuce or if you don’t even have time for that with some slices of cucumber.

Another fly agarlic

Latrop2I discorved this strong fellow during a walking-tour in autumnal Sauerland. It’s not too far away from my home and we visited the Latrop valley in the county of Hochsauerland. A lot of trails invite the tourist to enjoy nature. In that little spot of Latrop, at the end of a road, you’ll find an ancient pagan altar and the “Old Mill” sheltering a lumberjack museum. What you will find there too is nice hotels, good food and recreation. From here it’s not far to the WaldSkulpturenweg (Way of sculptures in the wood) from Bad Berleburg in Siegen-Wittgenstein to Schmallenberg in Hochsauerland. Along the trail of about 23km are ligned up 11 different sculptures initiating discussions.
You may even enjoy winter in Latrop. Cross-country ski-tracks are drawn from the spot to the Rothaar and Hunau track. In Schmallenberg and Winterberg you’ll even find ski-lifts and pistes. So if you wish to relax without giving up all activity you’re right to spend some days in this part of Germany.
