Sewn stars

Stoffsterne7Stars – the symbol of Christmas time. Today we’ll sew some of them. The advantage is the numerous fabric designs allowing to match them with your table decoration, the colors of your flat or the occasion you want to use them for. I lined them with waddings of different thickness. But for all stars is important that the fabric is to be placed left side on left side and the motive (template here) drawn on the right side with a textile marker. The outlines are only cut out roughly (for cloth remainders I didn’t even do that – see gallery)and the lining is to be ironed on one left side of cloth. Now fix both stars with pins their right sides to be seen. Now sew the marked contours with a narrow zigzag-stitch and cut out the stars along the seam.
You may place the stars individually on your table, attach them to a gift or combine them with a satin ribbon to a string or garland. For our living-room table I made a bigger star with a zigzag border too because it matches very well with our Christmas decoration made of natural accessories.

Christmas sugar

Weihnachtszucker

I found this recipe on mohnblueme.blogspot.ch and tried it immediately because I love pancakes, ricepudding and all these other things you usually eat cinnamon sugar with. This Christmas flavour contains 0.5lb finest sugar, 2 tea spoons ground cinnamon, 1/4 tea spoon ground nutmeg and 1 knife point ground clove. Fill it in a nice jar, put a star anise on top of the sugar, add the recipe and decorate with some ribbons and Christmas accessories. This way decorated you may even take it as a little gift when invited for a cup of tea or combine it with a Christmas present for cooking or baking.

Pastry
  1. 10.5oz wheat flour
  2. 1 knife point baking powder
  3. 4.4oz butter
  4. 4.4oz sugar
  5. 1 bag vanilla sugar
  6. 1 egg size M
  7. 2 tbsp milk
  8. 1 bag Christmas spice mix
For decoration
  1. 1 ready to use icing tube red alt. powdered sugar and red colour
  2. icing writer white
  3. white sugar pearls
Preparation
  1. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Preheat oven at 350°F top and bottom heat or
  3. 320°F fan assisted oven
  4. Pastry.
  5. Give wheat flour in a large bowl and add all other ingredients. Blend well with dough hooks of your kitchen machine at low speed first and at highest speed afterwards to receive a smooth pastry. Quarter pastry and roll out every part to a rectangle of 4.7x9.4 inches. Here it's helpful to work with the paper template because further cutting is easier if your rectangle is quite straight. Now cut into four smaller rectangles and these into 8 triangles. Place these on your baking sheet. Then take the tip and turn it down to the left or right side of the hat. The bottom is folded up. Bake the cookies for about 12 minutes and remove from baking tray with parchment paper.
Decoration
  1. Cover hats, except lower seam, with red icing and let dry a bit. Then place a sugar pearl on each tip and cover seam with white icing writer.
Remarks
  1. I didn't get any icing writer and therefor took some powdered sugar mixed it with water and a dash of lemon juice and added some desiccated coconut. That also makes the seam look fluffy. Other than prescribed in original recipe I only took half a bag of Christmas spice mix.
