Savory walnut dice

This recipe found on walnuss.de should be prepared the day before you plan to serve it. Perfect for big parties, the mixture of cream cheese, mild walnuts and chives.

Bottom
  1. cooking oil for baking sheet
  2. 100dr zwieback (crushed)
  3. 3.5oz butter
  4. 6 tbsp water
  5. 1 tsp sugar
  6. 1 tsp pepper
Filling
  1. 14oz cream cheese
  2. 1tsp sugar
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 7oz sour cream
  5. 1tsp lemon juice
  6. 1tsp salt and pepper
  7. 3oz hashed walnuts
  8. 2tbsp hashed chives
Preparations
  1. Preheat oven at 350°F
  2. Grease baking sheet with cooking oil
Bottom
  1. Mix crushed zwieback with melted butter, water and pepper. Flatten mixture on baking sheet and bake about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool down completely.
Filling
  1. Give cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, 2 eggs, 2 egg yolks, salt and pepper in a large bowl and stir well until all clots have disappeared. Beat two egg whites and fold in together with hashed walnuts and chives. Pour mixture on zwieback bottom. (Take some aluminium foil to form a frame in the middle of your baking sheet.) Bake 30-40 minutes until cream chease mixture becomes firm. Remove, cool entirely, cover with plastic wrap and place in a cool room overnight. For serving cut the "cake" in bite-size squares and serve on a nice plate.
Remarks
  1. You may decorate the dice with olives, salmon stripes or some sour cream tips.
